The Rose City Gliders have been invited to participate in the 2013 Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade to be held Saturday, June 8th, 2013. This is our fourth Grand Floral Parade, and our biggest event of the year, and we'd like to invite everyone to participate.

Gliders should wear black pants (everyone supply their own) and red Kariban K647 windbreakers over a white embroidered Rose City Gliders T-Shirt. This allows us to remove the red windbreakers if the weather becomes too hot. Everyone also needs to wear a helmet. This is the same outfit that we wore for last year's parade. If you don't already have the windbreaker and/or T-Shirt, or if you would like to a new set, the Windbreakers are approximately $15 for sizes Small through XL, $17 for XXL, and $18 for 3XL. The Embroidered T-Shirts are approximately $5 for sizes Small through XL, and approximately $7.00 for sizes XXL or 3XL. If you need a Windbreaker and/or T-Shirt, please let me know the sizes.

Segways need to be decorated with flowers. We are hoping that we can obtain the flowers for $30 per Segway. Greg, can Kathleen do the flowers for us again this year?

We encourage all participants to attend as many practices as possible, but preferably at least two. Since some folks prefer evenings, and other folks prefer weekends, I have tentatively scheduled three Saturday morning practice sessions, and three evening practice sessions. All practice sessions will be under the East end of the Hawthorne Bridge, so that we can stay dry in the event of inclement weather. Meet at the corner of SE Madison and SE Water Street.

  • Saturday Morning, May 18, 10 AM.

  • Wednesday Evening, May 22, 6:30 PM.

  • Saturday Morning, May 25, 10 AM.

  • Thursday Evening, May 30, 6:30 PM.

  • Saturday Morning, June 1, 10 AM.

  • Friday Evening, June 7, 6:30 PM (evening prior to the Parade).

Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in participating, even if it's only tentative at this point. Comments and questions are also welcome. If this is your first parade, we'll give you all the information you need to have a great time.

If you need any assistance (e.g. your Segway died), please let me know. I can provide lessons if need to learn to ride your Segway. If you have a spare Segway you can loan to another Glider, please let me know that as well.

I hope to see you all at the Grand Floral Parade.
